Refugee Maker Workshop

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

In Turkey there are nearly 4 million refugees where around 1.5 million of these are children. And despite the efforts of the government, a lot of these children are either in private funded places or places like Unicef’s refugee centers. Obviously, because most of these children can not go to school, they get education in places like these, where there are teachers and sometimes people that volunteer go there to teach. Someone I knew was one of these volunteers and on day she asked me if I would want to join her. Of course I said yes. The workshop was going to be a coding, 3D modeling and 3D printing workshop and they needed a 3D printer so I was more than willing to bring my Makerbot as well. The workshop was for kids around the age of 7 to 10 so they were really interested in the technology. Some of them even knew a little about 3D printing! The kids especially enjoyed seeing something being printed in front of their eyes. In the future I am going to participate in workshops like this as much as possible.
